Where can I Find Cannabis Deals Advertised?February 24, 2020 • 01 pm
Considering the popularity of the cannabis business, you may wonder why cannabis ads are relatively scarce. Even more, you may notice a lack of advertised discounts and sales. Well, there is something you can do about it. Sign up for your favorite dispensary email list to receive direct offers not available elsewhere. Keep reading to learn why.
Although the Federal government still classifies marijuana sales as illegal, a majority of states have passed laws to the contrary. Cannabis is gaining mainstream acceptance, with 11 states now allowing recreational use and another 22 states allowing medical use. However, there are still concerns about cannabis ads and marketing.
When California made the recreational use of cannabis legal in early 2018, state legislators were concerned about the products appealing to minors and thus enacted restrictive advertising rules. The most restrictive may be California Code, Section 26151, which states “any advertising or marketing placed in broadcast, cable, radio, print, and digital communications shall only be displayed where at least 71.6% of the audience is reasonably expected to be 21 years of age or older.”
This clearly eliminates many common forms of mainstream marketing. Additionally, some media have placed further restrictions on print and digital advertising for marijuana sales. According to Politifact, Twitter bans cannabis ads altogether. Facebook bans ads but allows cannabis business pages as long as they do not display marijuana sales, discounts, or prices. City leaders and lawmakers have also taken actions to restrict cannabis ads.
With dispensary advertising opportunities so limited, cannabis companies tend to address customers in broad strokes, not special promotions.
So, what is the best way to learn about cannabis deals, sales, and promotions? Signing up to be included on a dispensary’s direct mail list is one of the best ways to learn more. These lists are curated and age-restricted by the companies, so their advertising content can be much broader than mass advertising.
Email signups and loyalty rewards programs also offer similar legal compliance and therefore opportunities for more direct advertising. Dispensaries tend to offer the best marijuana sales to a limited number of customers, often exclusively to loyalty program members. They also announce events, product information, and specials the same way.
For example, the premier cannabis dispensary in the Coachella Valley is The Leaf El Paseo, located in Palm Desert, California. They are ideally suited to serve visitors attending the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Stagecoach, and other Palm Springs area events. The dispensary offers a wide variety of customer events, educational sessions, holiday sales, product promotions, and seasonal discounts, but they cannot advertise through mainstream media. The only way to learn about these is through in-store signage, email blasts, and direct mail postcards.
Be sure to sign up for dispensary email lists and loyalty programs if you would like to stay informed about special events and discounted sales of your favorite cannabis products.
